Master's in Learning and Teaching of Spanish in Multilingual and International Contexts
Aims and competences: The main aim of the degree programme is to provide quality training in teaching Spanish as L2 and teaching second languages in general. Students will acquire the professional skills required to design, plan and manage class work, courses, programmes and assessment in multilingual and international contexts. Emphasis is placed on ensuring students understand the innovations posed in L2 teaching and the role of research in this field, in which they are required to take part. The overall objective specifically centres on the following competences: 1. Know and apply the content of subjects related to using and teaching language, acquisition of second languages and learning processes. 2. Design, plan and manage teaching-learning in different educational, social, linguistic and cultural environments. 3. Assess the processes and results of learning-teaching. 4. Design and use tools to collect precise meaningful information to improve learning and teaching. 5. Participate in assessment, research and innovation in second language teaching and learning, particularly in multilingual and international contexts.
Aimed at: University graduates who have a good command of Spanish and English and wish to specialise in teaching Spanish in multilingual and international contexts. Many of the participants in this programme are graduates in Spanish Philology, Linguistics, Modern Languages and Education. Graduates in History, Law, Economics, etc. may also find interesting job opportunities in this field. Their specialist areas enable them to teach Spanish which is specific to the field (Spanish for the areas of science, administration, law or justice, economics or business, etc.) to university students in programmes related to their primary degree qualifications.
Course structure: The Master's degree in Learning and Teaching of Spanish in Multilingual and International Contexts carries 120 ECTS organised into 4 semesters consisting of 30 ECTS each.
Syllabus: First year First semester Modules -Introduction to the Spanish language 10 ECTS -Bases for second language teaching 5 ECTS -Didactic procedures and resources for teaching-learning Spanish as L2 5ECTS -Competence-based curriculum design and class planning for teaching Spanish as L2 10 ECTS Second semester Second semester (only students who receive the Erasmus Mundus scholarship are eligible to do the B track) A. Educational approach: The scope of second language teaching (English/French).University of Deusto -Introduction to research on teaching Spanish as L2 10 ECTS -Introduction to the second language chosen by the student (English or French) 10 ECTS B. Educational approach: The scope of teaching Spanish as L2. University of Barcelona-Pompeu Fabra. -Introduction to research on teaching Spanish as L2 10 ECTS -Teaching procedures and resources for teaching-learning Spanish as L2 (II) 10 ECTS -Teaching procedures and resources for teaching-learning Spanish as L2 10 ECTS Second year* Third Semester Modules -Aspects of second language didactics in multilingual and intercultural contexts 10 ECTS -Teaching techniques in multilingual and intercultural contexts 20 ECTS Fourth Semester -Research project.Research paper 30 ECTS. Completed at a participating university chosen by the student (University of Stockholm, University of Iceland, Free University of Berlin, University of Groningen)
