Objetivos y competencias:
The objectives of the Master's in International Migrations and Social Cohesion are as follow:
- Provide students with in depth knowledge of the different causes, types and effects of international
migrations. Special emphasis is placed on the impact of globalisation, national regulation systems,
transnationalism and the response of immigrants to changing circumstances and structures.
- Provide the necessary competences and knowledge to carry out research projects and quality analysis of
migrations and integration. This involves the study of different inclusion models in a variety of fields: the
job market, political spheres, education, health, housing, etc.
- Foster an interdisciplinary and intercultural approach through the use of different techniques and
methodologies that favour the development of holistic views. Encourage the student to integrate
knowledge of the main social issues and their ethical results in a critical coherent manner.
- Combine academic resources and cultural traditions from five European universities, fostering student and
faculty mobility among them. Consolidation of doctoral programmes.
- Become an international reference in education and world research in studies on migrations and social
cohesion by offering excellent specialized, transversal and multidisciplinary training to tackle global
processes.
- Favour transfer of knowledge in this field from faculty members and research teams towards politicians,
the media, educators, etc.
- Contribute to improve the quality and dissemination of Higher Education in Europe.
The main purpose of the Master's is to ensure that students acquire the following competences:
A. General competences: Propose, design and carry out research projects on migrations, social cohesion and inter-ethnic relations,
making use of information search skills, analysis, synthesis, organization and methodological quality. Defend
the principles that support relevant decisions and judgement, identifying the possibilities and the limits of
research. Demonstrate the capacity for innovation and critical judgement that shows an ethical commitment
to the subjects being studied.
B. Specific competences: 1. Rigorously interpret and use the theoretical and methodological framework of migrations and social
cohesion to make complex diagnoses and design research projects.
2. Use the knowledge acquired from the social, legal, and administrative framework regulating interethnic
relations to draw relevant conclusions.
3. Design and apply social sciences methodologies in the different stages of research (posing a
hypothesis, design, and analysis of results).
4. Effectively communicate research results orally and in writing. Defend and discuss the work carried out
with different audiences.
5. Work in interdisciplinary multicultural teams, evaluate contributions and the complementarity of the
disciplines and cultures involved in the project and identify the limitations of each.
6. Develop awareness of the implications of migrations and integration in order to defend an ethical
position based on respect for diversity, equality, solidarity and other democratic principles and
fundamental human rights.
7. Value the importance of lifelong independent learning and the flexibility needed to achieve personal
and professional development adapted to new needs.

Dirigido a:
The programme is aimed at University graduates (180 ECTS minimum) in any of the Social Sciences (Sociology, Anthropology, Political
Science, International Relations or similar) who wish to gain expert knowledge to practice in fields related to
migrations or pursue PhD studies. Fluency in English in essential as it is the language of instruction for the
entire MISOCO programme. Previous experience in the field will be taken into account.

Estructura:
The duration of the programme is two complete academic years (22 months), divided into four semesters. Students obtain 30 ECTS in each of the four semesters of the degree for a total of 120 ECTS.
The modules are organized as follow: a theoretical module taught at the University of Amsterdam (30 ECTS), a methodological module taught at the University of Deusto (30 ECTS), a third module on research training at the specialization university (30 ECTS) and the last module consisting of the Master's final project. With the exception of the Master's final project, the programme is based on in-class lectures. However, students have the option to take some of the research seminars at one of the partner universities in third-country members of the Consortium: York University (Canada), University Antonio Ruiz de Montoya (Peru), Moldova State University (Moldova).
